Obituary for Colonel David P. Schneider
Colonel David P. Schneider, 74 passed away April 19, 2018 at Baptist Hospital East. A career Army veteran he retired from Eastern High School as a JROTC instructor. He received his Bachelor degree from Niagara University and a Master degree from Central Michigan University and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church

He was a career Field Artillery Officer and his military schooling included Airborne, Ranger, Command and General Staff College, Defense Language School, and Army War College.

His active service included post in Vietnam 1969-1970, Italy 1967-1969, Germany 1972-1975, Japan1985-1988, and Hawaii 1980-1991.

His Military awards and achievements included Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, 3 Air Medals, Parachute Badge, Ranger TAB, Meritorious Service Medal ( 3 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster).

He also received VFW National Citizenship Education District Recognition Award in 2017 and 2018, Middletown Pioneer Award, presented by the Middletown Chamber of Commerce, December 2005, Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Lion Club May 2016, VFW 1170 State Teacher of the Year 2018, and in 2015 was inducted into the Niagara University ROTC Hall of Fame.

David is survived by his wife, Sylvia C. Schneider; son Colonel Christopher D. Schneider (Colonel Maria D. Schneider); daughter, Andrea Schneider Legg (Colonel Phillip Legg); grandchildren, Michelle R. Werner, Jacob C. Schneider, Luke P. Schneider, Matthew P. Legg, Grace E. Legg; brothers, Robert G. and Paul C. Schneider; and sister, Maureen E. Schneider.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated 5pm Monday April 23, 2018 at Ratterman Funeral Home East Louisville 12900 Shelbyville Rd. Visitation will be 6-8pm Sunday April 22, 2018 at the funeral home. A private burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in lieu of flowers be made to The Fisher House Foundation, Vietnam Veterans of America, or the Disabled American Veterans.
