Hot Coffee for the Homeless

March 13, 2017 By Marty Mills

Hot Coffee in the morning is essential to most of us. But, if you are homeless, you can’t brew your own coffee. If you are homeless you can’t just stop into a coffee house and order a cup. If you’re homeless you CAN go to wayside Christian Mission and get a breakfast.

Now thanks to a donation of$2,000.00 from Middletown Lions Club [MLC ($1,000.00 of which was given them by the estate of Melvin Jones Lion Paul W. Pape, Jr.)] and $2,000.00 from Middletown Christian Church, homeless can get that well needed cup of “Joe”. A dual 3 gallon Bunn coffee machine, heavy duty storage cabinet, support table, supplies and other essentials were purchased and installed at Wayside Christian Mission. This equipment enables the homeless and “Walk In” needy to enjoy coffee with their breakfast.

While other equipment, supplies and trays are still needed to complete this project we are off to a great start. MLC donates $60.00 a month for coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, plastic supplies, and some workers. That amount covered supplies for 3 days/week during each month.
WCM still needs additional supplies for the other cafeteria (for residents) plus 2 more days a week in the “walk In” cafeteria. Basic needs of food, clothing, and a place to stay are essential to taking the next step for this population.

We are serving our community. Can/Will you help? Send a donation to:
