The Middletown Lios Club participated again this year in the Middletown Family Festival on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
This activity contributes to the Lions Club International Centennial Service Challenge by serving Youth at the Local Level. This is not a money-making activity. The budget approved by member’s vote for the activiy was $250.00. The actual expense was $211.41. Part of the expense also covers a poster for the concerts in the park. Also, I will buy 4 more balls to add to the box of toys we will have available for the kids to play and return at the concerts.
During the Middletown Family Festival, MLC set up a “Kids Fun & Fitness” booth in which the youth were asked to participate in four different physical activities (running, hula hoop, jump rope & bag toss). Upon compmpleteing the 4 activities they were asked to sign a Physical Fitmess Pledge. By signing the Pledge, they committed to (1) be physically active 7 days a week, (2) run, jump, lift, throw, dance and bike as much as possible to stay fit, and (3) drink plenty of water and eat healthy.
When they completed the activities, and had signed the Pledge, they received a small prize and qualified to win a larger prize during a drawing of their names at 15-minute intervals.
Seventy-six (76) kids completed the challenge.
Thank to the Lions that participated in this activity:
1. Organizing: Lion Jenny Hammond (Committee Chair), Lion Kay Mills and Lion Nina Wolf.
2. Set-up of the booth from 1-2 pm: Lions Jenny, Kay, Marty Stamper, HD Wilson, Lion Dave Schneider and Lion Larry Hammond. Lion Diana Posgrove also facilitated transportation to and from the booth site. It worked perfectly to have the golf cart available at 1 pm. We had plenty of time to get ready.
3. Operation of the booth from 2-5 pm: Lions Jenny, Kay and Larry. Six (6) members of the Eastern HS ROTC also participated by leading the kids through the fitness course.
In addition to the Fun & Fitness booth, the MLC assisted the Eastern High School ROTC by providing a MLC BBQ Grill for the ROTC fund-raising activity and $500.00 for supplies. Lions Gail Bruder and Klaus Mullinex coordinated this support.
